Attended a panel on healing today at Beth El—my Bff John Hearst was the star (in my mind) of a diverse and highly competent line-up of local healers. These were my watercolor and micron sketches while listening (I always listen best when my hands are busy–as all my teachers would attest!).

Anna before drawing
We arrived early to drawing last night, so Anna sat and read while I drew her. 9 Mar 2011, sketchbook paper, micron pen, water soluble colored pencils, watercolor wash, 8″ x 10″.

It has been said that the mother-daughter relationship is the most profoundly complicated of all relationships. What I know for sure is that it is exhilirating, beautiful and challenging beyond belief. What I also know for sure is that I am so proud of both my daughters.. I also like them and admire them…and I love them with a depth I can’t comprehend even after a quarter of a century (give or take a year depending on which daughter).
This little drawing was done in about an hour with my homemade reed pens and permanent inks the afternoon before Phoebe left for South America. It is the first drawing/painting completed in this new year.
And to anyone and everyone who reads this: I wish you peace, happiness, health and love in this new year.
