back to the garden—squash beetles and seedlings—

I have been learning about what my seedlings are turning out to be and about weeding and squash beetles from my friends at TrueLove Farm, Karen and Steven.  So today I became a murderer.   I squished and gunned down with soapy water about a billion beautiful orange squash beetles that were attacking my chinese lanterns, tomatillos, sunflowers and hollyhocks.  The decision to proceed with this was an easy one—the garden is not this peaceful place that I had daydreamed about:  It is a violent jungle!  Okay, maybe I exagerate a bit.

Denise brought me more bricks and some great metal so my second garden sculpture has begun…..

Lupine is so beautiful it makes me almost cry when I look at it.  And those striped geranium leaves are exquisite.  The clematis is regal and happy.  There are these pink mums (I think?) with yellow centers that knock me out every time I look at them. I cannot paint these things as fast as they are happening.  I thought gardening was a slow thing—It’s not.  It is showing me that the plants are changing every single second and the earth really is turning so much more rapidly than it ever felt before.
