Still life (with a potato-like rock)

oil on  mdf board, 12″ x 16″, 2010

At our drawing/painting group on the past several Mondays at Shelli’s, we ‘ve been working with an instructor named Jaye Fox.  This is my still life from four weeks of working with her.  I feel she has helped me a lot in getting me to try some things like using smaller brushes, slowing down, layering, and working multiple sessions instead of alla prima.  Combined with my new limitations because of my knees, which means I must sit while I paint—that has been hard for me, but it also has slowed me down—I see that something is changing in the way I’m working and that I’m actuålly liking these changes.  I look forward to the next weeks of painting and seeing what evolves.
