Glasswoman

Glasswoman

The glasswoman swims fluidly around her cottage-house.
Everyone can easily ascertain what she ate for breakfast,
and how it’s digesting.
If they just stand back a little bit,
they can see through her so vividly,
to the details behind her.

The only way to know for sure sometimes that she’s really there,
is the almost indiscernible movement of the water
that gravitizes attention to
that streak of brilliant neon tincture
on her toes.

Those tiny optic orbs
and her bony little skeleton—
she’s the the kind of beautiful
that hurts a little,
but is not at all dangerous.

When people first notice her,
they point and say,
“What kind of woman is that?
I’ve never seen a woman like her!”

They continue their obvious, obdurate observations for a minute or so,
until they find themselves silent, watching intently,
investigating her body
as she is laughing and cooking
or drinking her coffee and perusing the newspaper.

Everything she feels is showing.
She has no secrets at all.
The transparent glasswoman
glides and clips through the air
in her glass house,
tending the plants and the children,
and cutting out coupons—
defenselessly aware of the too-big eyes at the window.
