3 Stages of drawing from the model, pencil on canson cream drawing paper, 12″ x 18″, March 2011
This unfinished work on a portrait of Anna in pencil was done at our girl gang group, at three lessons from Jaye Fox. There is much to still resolve in the sketch, but the process of learning to make marks with the pencil was a good experience for me. Learning to make lines instead of blocking in big areas of color was a challenge. Heck, just learning to sharpen the pencil was a new adventure.I have always worked pretty intuitively and the extensive use of measurement, and utilizing a lot of conscious thought while working is something I’m realizing is difficult for me, but necessary for me to add the skills and options I desire in my painting repertoire.
